What ChatGPT embeds in its images

  • C2PA Content Credentials - a manifest signed by OpenAI marking the image as AI-generated. Platforms may read this manifest as one provenance input.
  • AI metadata - EXIF/XMP fields and PNG text chunks that name the generator.
  • An invisible pixel-level watermark - an imperceptible signal embedded in the pixels themselves, not just the file headers.

Step by step: remove the ChatGPT image watermark
